betwixt & between

Let me read you a poem I wrote, dear one.
7

The in-between places, the neither here nor there.

Perched at the edge of water and earth, I belong only to the liminal.

Fully arrived in the place of being, non-being, wu wei.

It is here that I abide. No where to go and no-thing to be.

Just here in the center of existence.

Forget my mind, forget what I think I am.

I get to be either/or, both/and.

The privilege is all mine.

Truly, you see.

But am I free?

Or am I trapped in this in-between?

Who put me here to begin with, anyhow?

If I'm not over there, nor am I fully here, then where exactly am I?

Maybe it's an optical illusion, a psychological operation, a grand scheme much larger than me, winding itself around every single thing.

The Maya of duality, hiding the oneness, playing within Unity.

Don't shake the tree of dreams.

Be still.

Be quiet.

Be patient.

Let it come to you.

Allow it to reach you without you reaching out to it.

Drop the story.

The story of meaning and matter is what keeps you caught and feeling trapped.

There seems to be a starry-eyed dreamer who is resting and waiting, gazing out into the Unknown, beyond the world we know.

But that's not all.

There are other parts too, you know them well.

The practical high achiever is at odds with this innocent, ungrounded, hopeful, romantic idealist.

Do they realize - are they aware - that they are indeed two sides to the same coin?

They can meet in the liminal space of the betwixt and the between.

I wonder if they can each find what they are looking for.

On the one hand, grounded safety and security.

On the other hand, freedom and the possibility of adventure.

Can they explore these murky waters together?

I wrote this as a stream of consciousness writing inspired by the artwork1 above and my current life events. I recorded the audio2 in two takes and left it unedited. This is an experiment, one of many.

What does this poem stir in you?

I would love to hear your answer in the comments 🙏🏼

All the Love,

Rebecca
